HMP Belmarsh

HMP Belmarsh first became operational in 1991. It is situated in Thamesmead, south-west London, and is a category A prison for males. It is often used to detain inmates who are serving sentences for terrorist-related crimes. Prisoners have access to two gyms, a sports hall and fitness room, and the facility is also in partnership with Charlton Athletic FC, which offers coaching courses. It is currently capable of housing 910 inmates.
