HMP Bedford

HMP Bedford, which has been on the same site since 1801, is a category B prison for male adults. It was developed in 1849, and further construction took place in the 1990s, adding a gate lodge, health care facility (with 12 beds and 24 hour care) and house block. The prison has the capacity to hold up to 506 inmates, and is a local prison; which means that it detains individuals on remand to the local courts, in addition to inmates who have been sentenced.
